Rosie O'Donnell is one of the 37 million TV viewers watching "American Idol," but don't count her among those who liked what they saw.
For the second day in a row, "The View" co-host suggested Paula Abdul was drinking during the show and lashed out at the show for making fun of the people auditioning.

O'Donnell and her co-hosts played a clip from Wednesday night's "Idol," in which a contestant, following an off-key audition, was roundly mocked and rejected by the judges.
"That's compassion for you," O'Donnell said. "Isn't that what America thinks is entertainment, to make fun of someone's physical appearance? And then, when they leave the room, laugh hysterically at them three millionaires, one probably intoxicated."
O'Donnell had joked about Abdul's demeanor a day earlier. "Paula was very thirsty last night," she said.

Spokesman: Abdul 'Never Drinks'
Abdul's spokesman, Jeff Ballard, denied his client had a drinking problem last week, after online video emerged of Abdul slurring her speech and acting strangely while promoting "American Idol" in a string of satellite interviews.
Ballard said Abdul was simply fatigued last Thursday from the intense publicity campaign for the sixth season.

"She was exhausted," Ballard told reporters. "This was at the end of three days of press interviews and appearances, and she has had cameras following her around for a reality TV show too."
Ballard was referring to a new documentary series now in production about the star's life.
"She was sitting in a room with just a camera and a mic on, and the controllers dropped the sound twice, which is why she rolled her eyes."

The 44-year-old Abdul canceled all media interviews the following day, saying that she had a sore throat after sitting in the chilly studio Thursday.
"She never drinks," Ballard said. "I have known Paula Abdul since she was 13, and I have never seen her drink ever in my life. & And no, she is not on any kind of medication."

Rosie O'Donnell has made plenty of headlines in the last several weeks feuding with Donald Trump. Now she's directing her ire at a new target: "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul.
During a discussion on Wednesday's "The View," about the season premiere of the Fox reality show, O'Donnell complained that the judges were too harsh on the less talented contestants.

Then she took aim at Abdul's behavior.
"Paula was very thirsty last night, did anyone else notice?" O'Donnell asked.
"Every shot, that woman was sipping the 'Coca-Cola' in her cup," she said, adding a wink during the words "Coca-Cola" that seemed to indicate Abdul wasn't sipping a soft drink.

"Towards the end of the show, one eye was wandering," she said.
Last week, Abdul was dogged by speculation about her odd behavior and sometimes slurred speech during a satellite interview with a Seattle TV station.
After much Internet talk about the segment, FOX supported the "Idol" judge in a statement given to TMZ on Monday.

"(Abdul) is a consummate professional who always gives 100 percent to everything she does. "Rather than getting angry about these difficulties, or stopping the tour, Paula forged ahead and decided to have fun with the increasingly challenging situation. Unfortunately, because reporters and viewers were unaware of the situation, her humor was misconstrued."
Abdul says that drinking just isn't her style.
"Call me square, but I've never been drunk my entire life," she told "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest on his radio morning show Wednesday.

Paula Abdul told Jay Leno and his U.S. viewers an audio feed mix-up was the reason for her seemingly odd behavior during a recent television appearance.
Appearing on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," Abdul said the mishap occurred during a news conference in which she was looking at one camera and "there are 30 cities talking into your ear," People Magazine said.
"I guess Alabama was in my ear and so was Seattle at the same time, so I'm answering questions to the wrong answers of the cities," she said..

Afterward, Abdul's spokesman said she was not drinking or on drugs during the appearance. The Fox Network issued a statement of support for Abdul.

Abdul's interviews out of sync
Who needs loopy singer auditions? Before American Idol's sixth season premiere Tuesday, fans already were abuzz about judge Paula Abdul's squirmy, giggly, overly animated satellite interviews last week with TV stations in Seattle and San Francisco.
By Tuesday afternoon, the interviews with Abdul, whose Idol behavior has been fodder for fans, had been the subject of more than 2 million hits on YouTube. The most-viewed video of Abdul ranked No. 2 on the site.

In an appearance Monday on NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, Abdul explained that her odd answers resulted from a communications glitch during a press junket in New York. "You're looking at one camera, and there are 30 cities talking in your ear," she said. "Well, there was a mistake. Alabama was in my ear and so was Seattle at the same time," and her answers to one were broadcast on the other.
"They are going, 'What in the heck? What did she say?' Not my fault," Abdul said. She explained she was having fun during the interviews. She found a silver lining. "I answered the right questions at one of the cities."

In what will most certainly be a morning Paula Abdul won’t soon forget, the “American Idol” judge appeared to be slurring her words during a very animated interview with Seattle’s KCPQ morning show.
The story exploded this weekend when the video made its way to the internet, showing up on youtube.com and prompting some to ask, was Paula under the influence?
According Paula’s publicist, the answer is most definitely no.
Abdul’s publicist said the “A.I.” judge was simply exhausted after three hours of interviews, adding, “Paula never drinks. I have known Paula Abdul since she was 13, and I have never seen her drink ever in my life.”

On Monday, Fox issued this statement.
"All of us at Fox have tremendous respect and admiration for Paula Abdul. She is a consumate professional who always gives 100% to everything she does. Last week, during a satellite press tour there were intermittent technical difficulties including severe audio issues in which multiple stations were speaking to her at once. Rather than getting angry about these difficulties, or stopping the tour, Paula forged ahead and decided to have fun with the increasingly challenging situation. Unfortunately, because reporters and viewers we're unaware of the situation, her humor was misconstrued."
But it seems no controversy can hurt “American Idol.” Just 24 hours before its highly anticipated return, the show is bigger than ever.

The latest headline boasts that the franchise is worth a whopping $2.5 billion!
“I feel cheated,” Ryan Seacrest said of the story. “I mean $2.5 billion. Simon has seen most of that.”
Seacrest promised that this season will be better than ever, telling us, “The producers want to outdo what we did last year and try and top.”
Also, expect “Idol’s” star power to increase tenfold. Mariah Carey and Sir Paul McCartney are reportedly in talks with producers to make guest appearances.

“It’s a different way to find your big break,” he insisted.

*Some 37.3 million people tuned in Tuesday night to watch the season premiere of “American Idol,” and it’s probably safe to say that based on the behavior of judge Paula Abdul, all 37.3 million were wondering what was really going on inside of her Coke cup.
Viewers are already used to the former singer drinking intermittently from her glass, swaying to and fro from time to time and slurring her speech. But Tuesday’s Abdulisms appeared extreme – even for Paula.
On Wednesday’s “The View,” Rosie O’Donnell wanted to know why she was so thirsty – as she winked to the camera.
These concerns follow an interview last week with Seattle’s FOX affiliate in which Abdul appeared to be drunk and/or high. Explaining her behavior on a recent “Ellen Degeneres Show,” Abdul said she was in her “own little world.”

Meanwhile, the 37.3 million rating for Tuesday’s two-hour “Idol” premiere was up over last year's 35.5 million.
NBC’s "Law & Order: SVU" – with a storyline featuring Ice T’s character Fin and his son – won the 10 p.m. hour with 9.2/15. "Boston Legal" posted a 6.4/10 for ABC, beating out CBS' "48 Hours Mystery," 5.6/9.

The video - in which Abdul slurs and bizarrely gestures - emerged on YouTube on Thursday, prompting speculation alcohol or medication were to blame.
She subsequently abandoned media engagements scheduled for Friday.
However, Abdul's spokesman Jeff Ballard insists tiredness and a minor throat infection, not inebriation, were the causes of the cancellations and earlier odd behavior.

Abdul appeared on a Seattle morning news show, on which she appeared to be having some difficulty keeping it together. She giggled her way through the satellite-transmitted interview, leaving the show's anchors bewildered.
She later explained herself in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, claiming that there were "two cities in my ear". It transpired that Abdul's connection had crossed over, and she was answering questions posed by a different interviewer, with the results being broadcast on the Seattle show.
